Enamel Painted Vases

Enamel Painted Vases

Painted vases can really light up a house and if they are accompanied by beautiful flowers then the design is a killer. Unfortunately, vases with beautiful designs can be pretty expensive so it’s better to go for a “do-it-yourself” project where you can use your imagination and come up with pretty designs without spending a fortune on buying a new vase. You can go to the Dollar Store and buy as many vases as you like-buy plain transparent vases; that should do the trick. You will need a dishwasher safe PermEnamel paint and make sure to choose the colors that you like (you can either paint the entire vase using one color or you can use beautiful patterns; it’s up to you). You will also need a PermEnamel Surface Conditioner, some paper towels, a mixing bowl and a paint brush. When you start work, you have to clean the vases with hot water and soap. You have to dry them and then you need to pour some surface conditioner and cover the vase. Let it dry again. Mix your paints in the mixing bowl till you get the color that you really want. Pour the new paint inside the vase. Use the paint brush to cover all surfaces with paint. When you finish painting all the vases put them on a paper towel to let some of the excessive paint drip off. The longer you keep the vases upside down; the paint will become thinner and thinner. If you like the way the vases look with thick coats of paint on them, leave them upside down for just a few minutes. You can even the paint after you let a few minutes pass. Then you can let the vases dry for a day and you can start filling them with flowers in the morning.

Bohemian iPhone Case Tutorial

Bohemian iPhone Case Tutorial

This bohemian iPhone case can work for any phone. If you have an old bag or jacket made of leather you can use some leather parts to create a beautiful iPhone case. These are the supplies that you’ll be using: pieces of leather, white cotton yarn, a pair of scissors, Cropodile, one strip of white crocheted lace, a magnetic button and some fabric glue. You will now have to decide on the length and width of your iPhone case. Cut two rectangle pieces of leather that have the desired measurements. Put the two pieces one over each other and then use Corpodile to punch holes on both sides and at the bottom of the case. Use the white yarn to stitch through the holes. Cut a piece of leather that you’ll be using for the closure. Take into consideration the fact that you’ll have to fold the leather behind the button, making sure the back of the magnetic button can’t be seen. Use the fabric glue to stick the folded leather on top of each other. Now you can put the other side of the magnetic button on the button that is already on the leather piece and just push down. Now you have an idea on where to place the button. Use Cropodile to make two small holes and push the button through them. You should glue another piece of fabric on the back of the button; this way the button won’t scratch your iPhone. The last step is the easiest: you can glue the cotton lace on the leather case and you’re done.

An interesting trend in home design is a tromp-l’oeil. A lot of book shops and restaurants exhibit this beautiful idea. You can also try it at home. You need a couple of bricks and some skills as a painter. You can search the internet for different book covers or you can come up with your own ideas. Use acrylic paint that can be resistant to weather changes, including rain. Of course, it all depends on the purpose of the bricks that you want to turn into books. If you want to place these bricks outside, on an exterior wall, you need to use acrylic paint. If you want to use the bricks as elements of interior design you can use any kind of paint that you have in mind. The visual effect will be wonderful and you can use the bricks as part of a vignette.

Pop Top Purse Tutorial

Pop Top Purse Tutorial

As nothing gets lost in the crafting dimension, pop tabs make no exception. A variety of fashion items can be created using these tiny metal pieces: bracelets, belts, purses, hats, even dresses. In order to create a can tab purse you need at least 700 pop tabs and craft wire or ribbon for holding them together. First you must clean and dry the pop tabs, then proceed to assemble the purse. Start with two tabs side by side and other two over toping them. Connect them with a little piece of craft wire and repeat adding other two. Following this procedure, keep adding pairs of pop tabs until you create the front and the back of the purse. Continue with the sides adding around 3 tabs, in the same manner, keeping the rows at 90 degrees angle and making sure they follow the same direction. Close the purse with the bottom side and add a strap of fabric and pop tabs. In order to have a functional purse, add a fabric interior made upon the purse’s measurements. Have fun and enjoy your can tab purse!

Flower Pillow Tutorial

Flower Pillow Tutorial

This flower pillow can be easily made by you, in the comfort of your house. You will have original pillows in no time; there is no need to spend a lot of money at a local shop to have great decorations. What do you need? First of all, pick the materials and patterns that you think will match your soon to be flower pillow. You also need a pair of scissors, a marker, two glasses of different shapes and a sewing machine. Draw with a marker two circles of different sizes. You can follow the contour of the glasses you chose. Then cut three squares of different sizes from one of the materials you picked. The sizes should be: 19×19, 19×15 and 19×12. Cut the round shapes and stick them with pins in the other material and start cutting. You need around 20 small disks and 30 big disks for the flower petals. If you feel that there aren’t enough disks you can cut some more. Only you can decide if you need more disks or not. On the soon to be pillow case draw a big circle, that will be the center of your flower. Then sew the circles one by one until you have yourself a big flower on your pillow. Simple, isn’t it?

DIY Terrariums

DIY Terrariums

A small fish bowl, usually becoming an aquarium, can get now to be a terrarium- a beautiful decorative pot filled with soil, stones and plants. To make a terrarium we need a glass fish bowl- small or medium size, potting soil, small succulents, tree chips and decorative stones. On the bottom we place a layer of pebbles; next we add the soil, then the tree chips. In the end we add another layer of decorative stones and we place the plants on top, sticking them well into the soil. Now we have an elegant, decorative terrarium pot that we can place on the desk, on our bookshelf, or wherever it looks good!

Light Up Plant Potters

Light Up Plant Potters

Having a garden certainly brings interesting ideas on how to make it attractive- day and night. A suitable decorative look can be obtained, also by night, by posting big light-up plant pots from place to place. But how to make flower pots glow in the dark? Simple! First, we gather some big plant pots- round or regular and we buy some Glow in the dark paint spray. We make sure we operate in an open space, with enough air and splash protection. We prepare the pots by abrading them, then, we spray the paint from a distance of 30 cm, in overlapped circles, coating them with several layers. We transfer the plants in and we move the pots along the garden patio. In this way your garden will have a nice look during the night too and will offer a plus of security!

How To Make A Bottle Look Adorable

How To Make A Bottle Look Adorable

With an inspired touch, a simple bottle can become a stylish vase! How simple is that? We wash a regular size bottle and when dried, we clean it with pre- moistened alcohol wipes. Using a glass paint spray, we coat the entire surface and repeat the process until even. I usually use ancient golden color spray, but silver can be used instead, or another precious color. In the next stage, we apply some decorative motifs, like simple floral drawings, or other kinds of patterns. For that we use glass paint bottles provided with writing tips, so that we can easily draw. We can associate colors or keep it simple with just one or two colors drawings. Have fun and be inspired!

DIY Flip Flops

DIY Flip Flops

To make your own fabric flip-flops is really easy! You just need a pair of cheap, plastic flip-flops and a piece of fabric that you prefer. Take out the plastic straps from the flip-flops and cut the fabric into long strips. You can sew them or just iron them in half lengthwise, then proceed to assemble the flip-flops. First, make a small loop between toes, and knot it under. Insert the other strip into the loop and finish by placing the two sides into the holes and knotting them. Simple and fun!

How To Make Mason Jar Lights

Here is an interesting approach. You have a mason jar and a light bulb. How can you combine them both? Pick a regular looking light bulb. Then take the lid from the mason jar and with a hammer hit some nails on the lid. You need to create punctures on the jar lid. Try placing the screw thread through the lid until it is properly fixed. Then spray the upper part of the screw thread to match the color of the lid. Screw the light bulb and then place it in the mason jar. After you are finished you will have an original looking chandelier in your living room or bedroom. You’ll end up having an original home design that doesn’t cost you a lot of money.

Table Made From A Repurposed Crib

DIY - Craft Table Made From A Repurposed Crib

Kids can grow up so fast and sooner or later the baby’s crib will become useless. Or not? Before thinking of throwing the crib away, try repurposing it and create an original piece of furniture. A plain looking crib can make the perfect craft table. As a matter of fact, you can turn the crib in any type of table that you like; even a coffee table might do the trick. Use one side of the crib, take it out and use it as a shelf for the items you want to store inside the table. Buy some beautiful looking glass and measure the crib. The glass can be custom made and adjusted to fit the new table. The glass can make a perfect table top.

DIY Gift Wrap Station

DIY Gift Wrap Station

Because we love to make beautiful gifts, we are always tempted to buy new and interesting patterned paper, different colored ribbons and other similar items. The result is a big stack of supplies that needs to be organized somehow. An interesting and practical way to do it is by transforming a kitchen stool into a gift wrapping organizer. All that you need is one used, simple stool, a few meters of white cotton fabric, 4 casters, a paint spray- white (your materials are colored enough!)- and few meters ribbon. Clean your stool before makeover, then spray paint it and let it dry. Measure the side surface between two of the legs, and cut out 12 pieces of fabric, according to the measurements. Sew them 2 by 2, leaving just the upper part opened. To make them look like bags, unfold the bottom, keeping the seam in the center, then, fold the 2 corners and sew on the line that they create. Remove the sewed corners and prepare the ribbons. Cut 2 pieces ribbon, about 24 inches long, fold them in half and attach them on the sides, folded part inside. Take one bag and turn it wrong side out, then, insert the right side out bag with the attached ribbons. Sew them together leaving the upper part free. When done, turn it inside-out, and, you have your finished bag! Apply the same procedure for the remaining bags making them same size or smaller. Attach the 4 casters on the seat of the stool and place the stool on the ground. Attach the bags and start to fill them with the wrapping supplies!

The Crocheted Flower Wedding Bouquet

This gurl finally finished the wedding bouquet. The bride loves it.
Lots and lots of hand crocheted flowers. One down, four more to go!

UPDATE:
For those of you who've inquired how I did this, I cut a styrofoam ball in half and then covered it in lace using a hot glue gun. I also covered a styrofoam cone in lace.

The small five petal flower (my fave) pattern is:
Make a magic ring.
Into the ring: 1SC, CH2, 2DC, CH2, 1SC, *CH2, 2DC, CH2, 1SC*, repeat from *to* 3 more times. SLP ST into ring and fasten off. Pull the ring tight. I just knot the ends on the back and cut.

The leaf pattern is:

CH 8. In second CH from hook, SC. In next CH 1 HDC. 1 DC in next 3 CH. In next CH, 2 HDC. In last CH 1 SC. Turn to crochet on the other side of the leaf. 1 SC in the last CH you just SC in. In next CH 1 HDC, 1 DC in next 3 CH, then one HDC in next CH and 1 SC in last CH. Fasten off.

I used white ball pins to attach each flower onto the styrofoam ball.
Then I cut different types of lace and hot glued that onto the cone.
I used different weights of yarn, even embroidery thread, and hooks for the flowers to get different sizes.
This is a great heirloom to hand down and also use as a decoration!

Color Blocked Chargers

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES
wooden 11″ chargers
acrylic paint
sponge brushes
low-stick tape or painter’s tape
STEP ONE
Tape the plate at various angles to create triangles or block sections. Not all sections need to overlap. Smooth tape edges to ensure a clean line once you start painting.
STEP TWO
Using a sponge brush, fill in one section. If it over laps with another section, be sure to allow it to completely dry before brushing on the second hue. Brush color onto the plate by sweeping brush away from the tape’s edge, not toward. Continue painting each section a different color, and set aside to dry.
STEP THREE
Slowly remove the tape, and enjoy!

Fabric-covered Headband Holder

Headbands. Everywhere. Annabel's hair accessories multiply at rapid speed. To help tame the mess on her dresser, I dove into the recycling bin and made this simple headband holder.

You will need:

-One empty container of oats. Headbands fit on it perfectly.
-12 x 18" rectangle of fabric - make sure the image on the box doesn't show through
-Two circles of fabric, 6" each in diameter
-One circle of thin cardboard, cereal box thickness, cut to 4 2/3" diameter
-Fabric or craft glue - I use Sobo
-Popsicle stick or disposable plastic knife for spreading glue

Step 1: Wrong side up, fold one of the 12" sides over 1/2". Press.

Step 2: Place the fabric rectangle wrong side up on a plastic bag or other work surface. Using the popsicle stick, spread a thin layer of glue over the outside of the oatmeal container, making sure to get the top and bottom edges covered thoroughly. Starting near the unfolded edge of the fabric, place the sticky container onto the fabric. Roll it until the box is covered. Apply more glue to the folded over edge so it stays put. You can smooth any wrinkles with your hand.

Step 3: Apply glue around the inside bottom edge of the box and fold the fabric over. Please ignore the fact that my oats expired three years ago, which means we moved from Massachusetts to New Hampshire last summer with old oats.

Step 4: Glue the box top and the cardboard onto the fabric circles.

Step 5: Apply additional glue and fold fabric up over the edges.

It doesn't have to be pretty!

Step 6: Glue the fabric-covered cardboard circle into the bottom of the container.

Step 7: Glue the lid onto the top of the box. Note: If you'd like to be more enterprising than I am, you could attempt to get the oat smell out of the box and use it to store scrunchies and hair elastics!

Quilted Circle Coasters

Quilted Circle Coasters

Whip up these sweet and simple coasters in under an hour, using just a few bits of fabric. These coasters are placed together in squares, then cut to the circle shape. This project is a great introduction to sewing along curves and teaches you basic construction for making coasters, a perfect go-to gift for any occasion.

Materials (for four coasters):

- Quarter-Circle Coasters Template

- 16 fabric scraps, at least 3 in/7.5 cm square, for patchwork coaster tops

- Matching thread

- 1 fat quarter (18 by 22 in/46 by 56 cm) for backing fabric

- 1/4 yd/0.25 m fusible fleece

Step 1

Sew patchwork coaster top pieces.

Cut the 16 fabric scraps into 3-in/7.5-cm squares. Lay out the squares to decide what order you want them: There will be four used in each coaster. Begin with two squares and sew them together, right sides facing, to form one piece (see figure A). Press open the seam. Sew two more squares together, and press open the seam. Next, pin the two joined pieces together, right sides facing and the seams aligned. Sew together, to form the coaster top (see figure B). Press open the seam. Repeat to make three more coaster tops.

Step 2

Cut circle shapes.

Using a circle template such as a coaster, glass or other round object, trace and cut each of the four patchwork top pieces into a circle, making sure to center the circle template on your fabric. Then using the template, cut the coaster backing fabric and the fusible fleece into four circles each.

Step 3

Fuse fleece to coaster top.

Place one coaster top, right-side up, on a fusible fleece circle, wrong side facing the fusible (textured) side of the fleece circle. Using a hot iron, fuse the fabric to the fleece. Repeat with the remaining three coaster tops and three fleece circles.

Step 4

Quilt the tops.

With a chalk pencil or erasable marking pen, mark the stitch lines on a coaster top as shown on the template, with the two lines intersecting in the center. You will be stitching through the coaster top and fleece only (the backing will be added in the next step). Quilt according to your marked

lines (see figure C). Repeat with the other three remaining coaster tops.

Step 5

Sew backing to quilted top piece.

With a backing fabric piece and a quilted top piece together, right sides facing, sew around the edge with a 1/4-in/6-mm seam allowance, leaving a 1½-in/4-cm opening to turn the coaster right-side out (see figure D). Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of your stitches. Repeat with the other three coasters.

Step 6

Close and topstitch.

Turn one coaster right-side out by pulling it gently through the opening. Push out the inner seam so it makes a smooth circular shape. Turn the fabric under at the opening by ¼ in/6 mm and press flat and pin if necessary. Topstitch around the edge of the coaster, about 1/8 in/3 mm from the edge, sewing the opening closed and flattening the edges (see figure E). Repeat to finish the other three coasters.

Edgy Studded Pumpkin

Edgy Studded Pumpkin

STEP ONE

Remove all labels and tags from the craft pumpkin. The pumpkin should be made of thin plastic or painted paper mache so the material is thin enough for the thumbtacks to pierce.
STEP TWO

Using a 4″ piece of masking tape, cut both ends at a 45 degree angle. With subsequent strips, cut some so the ends point to the left and others to the right. Align the cut lengths to form the individual chevrons and repeat around the pumpkin.
STEP THREE

After taping your pattern and adjusting as necessary, trace the outline of the pattern with a pencil in a contrasting color so the guide lines are visible. Remove the masking tape.
STEP FOUR

Pin the tacks along the bottom of each pattern area, overlapping each tack slightly and pinning completely around the pumpkin before starting a new line. With each new line, overlap the prior tack slightly to prevent visible gaps. Continue until you reach the top guide of each area you want to fill with tacks. If necessary, tip the top row of tacks back slightly to finish off the look if the tacks aren’t flush with the surface of the pumpkin.

Sweater Slippers Slides - Amazing idea

Sweater Slippers Slides
Materials:
-old sweater
-2 pieces of 12"X 8" felt (maybe larger if you have a really big foot)
Creating The Footbed
Step 1: Trace your foot onto a manilla folder. Clean up the shape till you like the way it looks.
Step 2: Cleanly cut out.
Step 3: Next trace the pattern onto your pieces of felt. Trace the pattern twice per piece of felt, as we'll need two piece per slipper- one for the sole and one for the midsole.
When you're done you'll have 4 foot shaped pieces of felt:
Step 4: Now place the foot pattern onto the sweater with the heel 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" away from the bottom edge of the sweater. Draw and arc around the pattern that is 1" above the toes and then extends straight down. (Don't worry that there is more allowance on the sides; it's supposed to be that way!)
Step 5: Cut out.
Flip the pattern over and repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other foot.
Step 6: Use double stick tape to stick to stick the felt piece onto the sweater.
Step 7: Then repeat on the back side. Take your time to try to lineup the two pieces of felt as precisely as possible. (It will make the sewing look much prettier!)
Step 8: Place on your sewing machine with good side facing up and stitch all around.
**This step can also be handstitched. I'd suggest using a contrast color embroidery thread, so that it will become part of the design.
Preparing the Plug
Now we'll make the plug. (This is the part of the slipper that will be on the top of our foot, with footbed sewn all around it.)
Step 1: Cut off each of the sleeves 5" from the bottom.
Step 2: Stitch the sleeve opening shut.
Step 3:Round the other end. When you've finished this, the plug will look like an egg with a flattened bottom.
Now you have all the pieces and are ready to assemble the slipper!
Sewing It Up
Step 1: Place the the plug over top of the foot bed with good sides together. The pointed area of the plug should be lined up with the center top of the foot bed. Tack stitch together at the point.
Step 2: Pull the plug back 1" from where it would rest naturally and tack stitch the left and right corners onto that place.
Step 3: Make two more tack stitches. One at the midpoint between the point and corners stitches on the right and then on the left.
Step 4: Starting from the left side, moving right, stitch all around, evenly distributing the excess material from the footbed as you go. (It should be much easier to do this thanks to the tack stitches you did in the previous steps.)
Step 5: Flip right side out, then make two snips on either side of the heel that go almost all the way to the felt.
Step 6: Fold the two side pieces to form the back of the slipper. Insert the center flap into the slit at the bottom.
Step 7: Close the back by running two rows of stitches up the back about an itch apart. Then sew straight across the bottom to close the slit.
Adding A Collar
The last step in finishing the slipper is to add a collar. This will give the edges a clean finished look and keep the slipper from being so floppy.
Step 1: Cut all around on the bottom of the sweater. Trim to about 2" high and cut in half. (If you can cut in half right on a side seam, even better.)Then put a little double stick tape on each piece.
Step 2: Fold in half around the top edge of the slipper and tack stitch a few place to keep it from flipping up. And that's it, they're ready to wear!
I was left with a good amount of extra sweater, which I've turned over to my kiddo, Ophelia. Ophelia is a wiz at making amazing stuffed animal from all things scrap.I look forward to updating this in the near future with what she created from the remnants.
Think warm thoughts. The winter will be here before we know it:)

Best DIY Holiday Craf - Make Bottle Brush Trees

1. Grab a bag of bottle brushes… you know, the ugly green kind that come in packs at the dollar store.
2. Fill your sink with a couple of caps of bleach and toss those guys right in. You will notice the bleach working wonders on the bottles immediately. You can bleach them until they are white or pull them out at different times to get shades of greens.

3. Rinse them and set aside to dry.
4. With wire cutters cut the wire of the brush at least 1-inch below the end of your brushes.

5. Make a pine tree shape out of your brushes by trimming the bristles of the brush to be tapered in the shape of a Christmas tree. Make sure that you cut the bristles at the top much shorter than the rest and leave the bristles longer when you reach the bottom.
6. If you want natural trees you can go ahead and add bases with wine bottle corks (cut to size), with wire from the brush, or by using adding styrofoam or wood circles. If you want some holiday cheer on your tree you can use RIT dye to make your desired color and add flocking and glitter to your hearts desire!
